Granit Xhaka

ABOUT GRANIT


Granit Xhaka is a Swiss professional footballer playing in the Premier League for Arsenal and internationally with the Swiss national team.  A central midfielder with a renowned reputation for being a natural leader and scoring long distance screamers.

In 2018, Xhaka will be heading to Russia to play in the World Cup as Switzerland look to build on their strong qualification campaign.  Although a Swiss national, Xhaka shares a strong heritage with Kosovo where his parents are originally from.

Granit’s football career began at his hometown club Basel winning the Swiss Super League in each of his first two seasons. He rose up through with Swiss ranks and won the U17 World Cup in 2009 in Nigeria.

Granit moved to Bundesliga team Borussia Mönchengladbach in 2012, developing a reputation as a technically gifted player.  He was made captain in 2015 at the age of 22, leading the team to UEFA Champions’ League qualification for a second successive season.

In May 2016, Xhaka completed a high-profile transfer to Arsenal and relocated to London where he lives with his now wife, Leonita.  Away from football, the couple enjoy music, fashion and spending time with friends and family.

Xhaka was born in Basel, Switzerland to Albanian parents. He is the younger brother of Taulant Xhaka, who is also a professional footballer and plays for FC Basel and the Albanian national team.
